Titans at Texans

Sunday I got to shoot the first place Titans as they traveled to Houston to play the Texans. The great record that they had didn't help them during the game, as they were defeated by the Texans 13-12. I had a pretty good shoot on Sunday. Here are a couple of photos from the game:

It's always important to shoot through the play. Some of the most compelling photos come after the whistle is blown. Here are a couple:

Ravens at Texans

Sunday I shot the Ravens at Texans game at Reliant Stadium. The Ravens destroyed the Texans. The Ravens defense played very well and captain Ray Lewis recorded to interceptions. Here are a couple of shots from the game that I did some Photoshop work too. Photoshop can be a great tool to change the dynamics of a photo. Enjoy!

Mills Family Portraits

Last week I shot Brian Mills' Family portraits. Brian is the Youth Pastor at Second Baptist Church and does a great job. I had a lot of fun hanging out with Brian, Jennifer, McKenna, and Parker. Please let me know if you are interested in portraits for your family! bddavis33@gmail.com

Tyler and Aimee Are Getting Married!

My good friend Tyler Hennessee proposed to his girlfriend Aimee last week and I got the honor of shooting the entire event. Tyler planned a day-long scavenger hunt for Aimee which culminated in him "popping the question" in the worship center at Second Baptist Church. I hid in the worship center and was able to take pictures at the event. Here are a couple of pictures from the night:

Georgia at LSU

I had the privilege of shooting my Alma Matter, the University of Georgia, as they traveled to Death Valley to take on the LSU Tigers. Baton Rouge is only about 4.5 hours away from Houston, so I was able to make a day trip to the game. Linebacker Darryl Gamble (50) and running back Knowshon Moreno (24) were the stars of the game.
Gamble had two interceptions which were both returned for touchdowns.
Moreno had 163 rushing yards and a touchdown.
Matthew Stafford (7) also connected with freshman A.J. Green (8) for a touchdown.

Bengals at Texans

Sunday I covered the Cincinnati Bengals vs. Houston Texans game at Reliant Stadium. I got some good game action, which was a lot more difficult than usual. My primary camera (Canon Mark II) is not usable at the moment because of some focusing issues it is having. I shot the game with a Canon 20D which is a good camera, but not one meant for shooting professional sports. Here's a photo from the game:
I took a little bit different approach at shooting the pre-game introductions at this game. I usually try to shoot players as they run out to the field. Sunday, I focused on shooting the players as their names were called. This allowed me to capture them in the smoke before they began to run. I was pretty satisfied with the results. Here are a couple:

North Texas at Rice

I went to Rice this weekend to see the Owls play the North Texas Mean Green. Rice destroyed UNT 77-20. Needless to say, there was plenty of action going on during the game. Rice quarterback Chase Clement (16) and wide receiver Jarett Dillard (81) set a NCAA record by connecting on their 40th and 41st career touchdown pass-and-catch combination. Here are a couple of photos from the game:

Washington State at Baylor

I attended a rare college game under the "Friday Night Lights" as Washington State played Baylor. Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin looked excellent as he led the Bears to a huge victory. I also got to see some friends who are students at Baylor. It was a great night!

Hurricane Ike

The hurricane is coming! Hurricane Ike is headed toward Houston and really moving my schedule around. I originally planned to shoot Air Force at Houston on Saturday and then the Ravens at Texans on Sunday. Ike changed all of that! I'm now in College Station planning to go to the Washington State at Baylor game that got moved from Saturday afternoon to Friday night. Also, I'm still planning to go to the Texans game, but it has been changed to a Monday night game. It's promising to be a crazy weekend. We'll see what happens!

HBO Boxing After Dark

I got to assist Ed Mulholland at HBO Boxing After Dark at the Toyota Center on Saturday night. It was the first boxing event that I've ever been to. Ed was great and taught me a lot about shooting the sport. I was also able to shoot a couple of the under card bouts before the two main events. Here are a couple of pictures that I took from the night:

Hillsong Conference

This weekend I got to go with some friends to the Hillsong United Conference. Hillsong United is one of my favorite bands and they do a great job of leading worship. Here are a couple of pictures that I took with my new Canon 20D and a 50mm 1.8 lens. This is a great little set up when you don't want to carry around big glass, but want to make quality photos. The screens, lights, and LED's were great!

Pence Leads Astros To Victory

I shot the Astros and the Cubs tonight. It was a pretty exciting night at the ballpark, with the Astros defeating the Cubs 4-2. All of the scoring occurred in the fourth inning. Cubs third baseman Aramis Ramirez hit a two-run homerun in the to of the fourth only to be overshadowed by Astros rightfielder Hunter Pence. In the bottom of the fourth Pence hit a grand slam, which ended up being the game winner. Hunter also had a double in the game. He is a great young player with a lot of talent. First baseman Lance Berkman also started a new hit streak tonight. The "Big Puma" is turning heads and making sure that the baseball world knows who he is.

Football Season Has Come Again

Friday, I attended the first mini camp of the Houston Texans. Their preparation for the 2008 season is underway. It was a great time to see their new draft picks including first round pick Duane Brown and former West Virginia running back Steve Slaton. Here is a shot of sefensive end Mario Williams as he works on his swim move. Mario is poised to have a great season this year. Remember, he was the number one draft pick overall, chosen over Reggie Bush and Vince Young. He is still looking to overcome the doubters that believe that he should not have been taken number 1.

What a Crazy Weekend!

This week was a pretty interesting one for me. Last Friday and Saturday, I went to watch the Astros and Brewers play on the diamond. I thought that that would be the finally of my weekend, but was I wrong. I got a call to travel up to Dallas to shoot Game 6 of the Dallas Stars and the San Jose Sharks. This was my first hockey game, so I was a little nervous upon arrival. It was an outstanding game that went into four overtimes! The Stars won the game on a goal by Captain Brenden Morrow. What a night! The crowd was extremely excited throughout the entire game and everyone was on the edge of their seat in anticipation of the game winning goal.

First Astros Game

I went to my first Astros game of the season tonight. This is a shot of Miguel Tejada after he hit a homerun. Roy Oswalt pitched great for the Astros and had plenty of offense with both Tejada and Lance Berkman hitting homeruns. The Astros won big, 10-3. I should be heading back to Minute Maid tomorrow for game two between the Padres and Astros.

Mexico Mission Trip 2008

Here are a couple of pictures from my trip to Mexico with Second Baptist Church Houston, TX. My favorite is the one of the boy reaching out for the soccer ball. You can really see how happy he is at the thought of getting a new soccer ball.

C-USA Indoor Championship

This weekend I had the opportunity to cover the Conference USA Indoor Track and Field Meet. It was great to see all of the young college athletes competing. It was an exciting meet that was a lot of fun to cover.

Oklahoma at Texas A&M

This weekend, I traveled up to College Station to shoot the Texas A&M Aggies as they faced the Oklahoma Sooners. It was a very close game, with the Aggies coming up on the winning side. I made a couple of good images at the game. One of my favorite image was this quiet moment during a free throw where two of A&M's guards are standing near each other with the same postures. The photo gives a sense of legacy and tradition. I also enjoy the picture I made of Aggie forward Joseph Jone shooting a layup. I took this photo from the terrace level above the court. I love changing my positioning during basketball to get something different in my take.

East-West Shrine Game

Saturday I shot the East-West Shrine Game at the University of Houston. This game allows many college seniors to have one last college football game. For others, it is one of the first steps that they take in preparation to play in the NFL. I got to shoot a couple of Georgia players, Thomas Brown and Fernando Velasco. I also got to get some images of defensive back Zach Bowman, of Nebraska, who I was fortunate enough to meet through my good friend Dusty Stanfield. Zach is a great guy who I think will have a lot of success on the next level. The game was so much fun and a great finale to the football season. I guess it is now time to look forward to next season, a season where the Georgia Bulldogs are ranked by many as the preseason number 1! Let's hope they will continue to be ranked that high. It couldn't hurt, considering all that it did for LSU this year.

Arizona at Houston

The Wildcats of Arizona visited U of H on Saturday. I had a great time shooting the game. Arizona has some great young players and should continue to be a powerhouse for years to come. These are just a couple of images from the game.
